SUMMARY:Sunday Worship & the Word
DESCRIPTION:Pastor Don Elliott \nWorship Leader David Duncan \n10:00 every Sunday at Freddy T’s Restaurant in Pickwick \nNEAR THE CROSS \nThe cross is so central to our faith as Christians.  It is a universal symbol of the heart of our faith knowing that it was upon the cross that Jesus died for our sins. \nBut as we go back to that original cross\, there are many stories that surrounded it…and not all of them are good stories. \nIn the weeks ahead I will be preaching on the gospel accounts of different people who were “near the cross.”  This week it will be Pontius Pilate. \nThe passage we will study is Matthew 27:11 – 26. \nIt might be more accurate to say that Pontius Pilate “caused” the cross rather than he was “near” the cross. \nThe Apostles’ Creed\, that has been used by Christians since the 3rd century in worship and instruction\, affirms that Jesus “…suffered under Pontius Pilate\, was crucified\, dead and buried.”  Why has it been so important for Christians for centuries to remember that Jesus “suffered under Pontius Pilate”? \nThis is what we will discover this coming Sunday\, and we will find out that there is something about Pontius Pilate that can make a difference in our walk with Christ. \nSee you Sunday. \n

SUMMARY:Sunday Worship & the Word
DESCRIPTION:Pastor Don Elliott \nWorship Leader David Duncan \n10:00 am at Freddy T’s Restaurant \nThis week’s message: \nLOVE…IS IT GOOD OR BAD?? \nOf course\, love is good\, right?  But is it an absolute good?  In other words\, in the name of love can something be bad or even evil? \nI am afraid so\, and Paul writes in I Corinthians 13…”love does not rejoice in evil.”  Why did he have to write that?  Because it is not obvious.  Love is an entrance way to many things and it can even be an entrance way to wickedness. \nDo you believe it?  Well\, just think about the things you have said in your life that you love.  Have they all been good?  Have they all been beneficial to you and others?  Have some of them even been evil?  Because you loved something\, have you done something that disobeyed the Lord and hurt other people? \nCome on\, let’s admit it.  Yes\, we have. \nBut real\, biblical\, godly love “does not rejoice in evil.”  It “rejoices in the truth.” \nWe can use love for our own human\, even selfish\, reasons and in so doing we can get off the heaven bound track.  The corrective given by Paul for godly love is “truth.”  And love has a distinctive\, even passionate\, attitude toward that truth.  It is “rejoicing.”  This truth brings us joy.  This truth brings us pleasure.  We can rejoice in this truth and never regret anything done in that truth. \nThis Sunday we will examine this aspect of love a little more deeply\, especially to see what truth Paul is talking about. \nSo…love…is it good or bad?  It depends.  Come to Grace Chapel this Sunday and you will discover the answer.
