GRACE CHAPEL IS CALLING FOR A DAY OF FASTING AND PRAYER ON GOOD FRIDAY, APRIL 10. We will be having a Good Friday Service LIVE on Facebook at 12:00 noon with Pastor Don Elliott and Worship Leader David Duncan.
Good Friday is the traditional day when the Christian church has remembered the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. We are calling those in fellowship with Grace Chapel, and any others who so desire, to set apart that day as a time to fast and pray. Fasting is a Christian discipline to not do something that is good in order to seek for something that is better. Eating is not sinful. It is a necessity. But in fasting, eating (whether one meal or three meals) is denied in order to spend that time in prayer…seeking God with our whole hearts. On Good Friday the self-denial of fasting reminds us of the self-denial Jesus supremely demonstrated on the cross, and the self-devotion of prayer reminds us of why Jesus died.
Everyone should decide how (one meal or more) or if (maybe your health does not allow you to fast) they should fast, but everyone should decide to set apart a time to pray focusing on Jesus Christ…Who he is and what he has done for us.
Easter is April 12 when we remember and celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Let us prepare for Easter by observing Good Friday. Let us know that Jesus is alive, but that truth is impactful only when we also remember that “…he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” (Philippians 2:8)
