FOCUSED ON THE FAMILY
What is the most foundational verse in the Bible on marriage? Well, it is a rare verse.
It occurs verbatim in three place in the Scripture:
Genesis, Matthew and I Corinthians. That is rare.
John 3:16 occurs once. Philippians 4:13 occurs once.
Psalm 23 occurs once. Genesis 1:1 occurs once.
The verse that is the Lord’s declaration about marriage occurs THREE times!! And those three times are at creation, the ministry of Jesus, and the early church. In other words, it is a verse that bridges the entire Bible. It is not seasonal, temporary, or cultural.
It is not only Old Testament or only New Testament.
It has nothing to do with salvation, but it is for the saved.
It is the standard for marriage in the Bible,
yet in the Bible it was broken over and over again.
This verse is where everything else that is to be said about marriage from a biblical viewpoint must begin.
In the seemingly limitless expressions of marriage in our day,
it is the definitively limited ideal of God for marriage in all ages.
