TIME TO MEDDLE WITH MARRIAGES

Yep, that is what I am going to do for the next two Sundays:  meddle with marriages.

I will do that by looking at the commands given to wives and husbands in Ephesians 5:  wives, be submissive to your husbands…husbands, loves your wives…

They sound like fighting words to me?  Wives, when you hear the command “be submissive to your husbands” what is your first reaction?

Husbands, when you hear the command “love your wives” what is your first reaction?

See what I mean?  Fighting words.  These commands will bring out denial (“I am already doing that.  Do you doubt I am already doing that?”) or dread (“I know, I know.  I have tried everything.”) or defensiveness (“You don’t know my husband (wife).” or defeat
(“I can’t do it any longer.   I have tried my best.  I give up.”)

So we all need to reexamine these commands.  I will not meddle with anyone’s marriage, but I will be encouraging each partner in a marriage to meddle with their own part in their marriage.  And I will start with wives looking at themselves and husbands looking at themselves in the light of a command from Scripture.

Many marriages are in a vicious cycle of wives complaining about their husbands and husbands complaining about their wives.  Round and round we go.

To break that destructive cycle, each wife and each husband must first start with looking at themselves and examine themselves before God with God’s Word as the standard.

So fasten your seat belts, put on your helmets, take your Dramamine, make sure your life insurance is paid up…let the meddling with marriages begin…this Sunday.
